FPS loosing while preview

Hello,

I'm a new user of ivsEdits LE. I would like to learn how to edit and create cool movies, so I found this software, I watched all yours tutorials on youtube, and I wanted to try it by my self, but I have problems with preview.

The problem is when I use one of the video effects (besides of changing color effects) on my clip and play preview. The buffer bar is green on the beggining of preview and while playing it loses frames.

I was looking for a way to solve my problem and I found some possibilities written by Mr. Roberto to some other user:

1st possibility:
at least a subsystem between CPU, RAM, GPU or Disk are too much slow tosustain  the  project rate.

2nd possibility:
the clip frame rate is different than current Project Framerate.

3rd possibility
The Downscaling algorithm selected is too much heavy for your currentsystem if there are clips with higher resolution of the current project:a possible solution is to change "Cubic" to "Linear"or "Fast" algorithm

Unfortunately those advices doesn't help in my problem or I just can't use them properly :) So I will write below some information about all stuff.

I made a short clip in Blender: resolution 1280x720, 60fps, duration time 8 seconds, format .avi.

I had to convert it to .wmv because of obvious reasons, so the fps reduced to 30. Now I could open it in repository.

To make a successful preview of clip without any effects I have to use target format: "HDMode 1280x720 60fps progressive", I have no idea why I can't preview it on target format: "HDMode 1280x720 30fps progressive" if after conversion the clip is on 30fps.

By the way, the proxy mode is available only for 1920x1080 right?

Pure clip on preview is perfect, but if I add for example only zoom effect from "DVE Perspective and PIP" the buffer bar decreases and clip loses frames to 0.

Now I will refer to those three posibilities written above.

1st possibility: at least a subsystem between CPU, RAM, GPU or Disk are too much slow to sustain  the  project rate.

My laptop specification:

intel core i7, 3630QM 4cores 2,4 GHz with boost to 3,4 GHz,

16GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz,

Nvidia GTX 660M 2MB GDDR5

HDD 750GB, 5400 rpm

I'm not sure if the problem is in the hardware.

2nd possibility: the clip frame rate is different than current Project Framerate.

I tried to change framerates between 30 and 60 and resolutions in "Ttimeline Device Settings", but it doesn't help. I tried even the proxy mode but this is higher resolution than the clip.

3rd possibility: The Downscaling algorithm selected is too much heavy for your current system if there are clips with higher resolution of the current project:a possible solution is to change "Cubic" to "Linear"or "Fast" algorithm

I was using only one clip with resolution 1280x720, and I also tried to change those algorithms, but nothing changed. Moreover 1280x720 is not a high resolution, there is a lot higher resolutions than this one.

I hope someone can help me with this problem, because I really liked ivsEdits.

Greetings froom Poland

Re: FPS loosing while preview

Ciao Blacktv,

we are very happy that you like ivsEdits.

WMV is not the best format for video editing, since it is a very compressed format that requires lots of CPU power for decoding. Here is the list of supported files, http://www.ivsedits.com/default/compare.aspx

ivsEdits handles natively image sequence files (ivsEdits sees a sequence as a clip), if you have a fast drive or an SSD and the space, you could use them, Blender will be happy to generate the sequences*.

BTW I think that the main reason of your problem may be that you're using the wrong GPU to accelerate ivsEdits effects. Probably your laptop has two GPUs, the Intel integrated into the CPU that is very slow, and the Nvidia GTX660. You may be using the Intel GPU... You'd have to force your laptop to use the Nvidia unit with ivsEdits. You can find on the web several tutorials to force the use of Nvidia GPU, it happens for videogames and other apps too.

Many ivsEdits features are GPU accelerated and the "DVE Perspective and PIP" is one of them.

Let me know if you can fix your problem.
Ciao and Happy Editing,

Paolo

*Using the image file sequences you will have an outstanding picture quality, that many other uncompressed video file format can't reach, due to the YUV color space or 4:2:2 sampling.

Re: FPS loosing while preview

I would like to try out your advice but I have some problem with ivsEdits LE startup. It asking me for activation code, and I can't do it automatically, so I wrote to the support and I'm waiting for response.

I will let you know how things will go after this activation issue.

Re: FPS loosing while preview

Hello Paolo,

you were right about this GPU. I was using Intel HD Graphics 4000 instead of Nvidia GPU, so I changed it, as you said and tried to make some video clip.

Result is awesome, Everything is working perfectly.

You are the best, thank you for such fast and professional help!

best regards,

Blacktv

Re: FPS loosing while preview

Ciao Blacktv,

several times users gave up at the first problem thinking that a free software doesn't work, so I'm very happy that you fixed your configuration problem and that now you can really enjoy professional editing with ivsEdits.

We are developing lots of new stuff, so, stay tuned ;-)

Paolo
